Join The Troop

Welcome to
Boy Scout Troop 49.

Camping, Education, Activities and Fun all make up our scouting year. It allows our scout families to spend quality, valuable time with their sons and each other and fosters an active and welcoming environment for our scouts to learn and grow.

Troop 49 is the largest troop in the Ishkote District, Rainbow Council #702, based in Morris, IL with over 60 scouts from the Lincolnway area, including New Lenox, Frankfort, Manhattan, and Lockport.  We are one of the most active in the area with activities and campouts planned at least once a month.  Feel free to look at our calendar here on the troop site to see what we are doing and where we are going.

We are very active in the community participating in the Loyalty Day Parade, the annual Scout Food Drive and other various charitable projects that come along from time to time.

The Troop is led by the scouts themselves, and the parents in the troop are very active in helping them make the most of the scouting experience.  A typical campout has around 30 scouts and 10 adults attending.

Troop fund raisers include the annual BSA Popcorn Sale, Pancake Breakfast at the VFW and managing a parking lot for local businesses that are located close to the Proud American Days festival grounds.  The scouts receive a good portion of the funds they raise deposited into their personal scout accounts that they can use to pay for scouting activites, books or other materials.  The rest of the funds are used to purchase troop equipment for the boys to use at campouts and activities.

The Troop meets on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Mondays each month.

The 1st Monday each month is for meetings of the scouts who are elected or appointed as patrol leaders (i.e. Patrol Leaders Council or “PLC”).  Parent and Committee Meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of the month from 8-8:30 and is finished by the end of the scout meeting.  The committee meetings are open to any parents that wish to attend.

All Troop and PLC meetings are held at the troops charter organization V.F.W. Post 9545, 323 Old Hickory Road, New Lenox, IL 60451.  PLC meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. and last about 60 minutes.  Troop meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. and last about 90 minutes.  We look forward to seeing you at the next Troop meeting.
